Selecting a Great Web Site

How can you determine if a specific web site would be appropriate for use within your own instructional setting. There are many factors to consider. Review the content pages on Web Site evaluation and then choose a single page to evaluate. For example, if you had chosen a unit topic on Rocks and Minerals, this would be a great site to review: http://sln.fi.edu/fellows/fellow1/oct98/create/igneous.htm

Notice that this web page could be used by students within a single class period. I found this page after locating a wonderful resource on Rocks and Minerals at the Rock Hounds web site: http://sln.fi.edu/fellows/fellow1/oct98/index2.html This is a great site, but it is much too large to consider when trying to complete a web site evaluation.

Once you have searched and discovered some great sites for your topic, you will use Filamentality to create a web page that includes links for your students to access...even if they are very young. Here are some examples to see what is possible:

  1. Hunt for Magnets (http://www.kn.att.com/wired/fil/pages/huntmagnetsls.html)
  2. Poetry Tools Galore! (http://www.kn.att.com/wired/fil/pages/listpoetryre.html)
  3. Jamestown Resources(http://www.kn.att.com/wired/fil/pages/listcolonialco1.html)
